From Egypt, the dark green/brown chopped leaves give a sweet and slightly spicy aroma. The flavour is characteristic of anise. Basil mixes especially well with dishes that have a tomato base such as Italian pasta sauces. Also a great herb for use in salad dressings and marinades.
